Soffit

Soffit refers to the horizontal underside of a roof eave. Their primary purpose is to ventilate your roof and attic, as well as protect your home from wind, rain, hail, sun, and snow.

Soffit typically features a plain design with small holes or slots that

provide air circulation. The air that cycles through the soffit vents draws heat and moisture out and away from your attic. This is a very important function because moisture in the attic can develop rot in the decking and rafters.

The soffit is located underneath the eaves of your roof and against your siding. It not only helps with ventilating your roof, but it also keeps away critters like squirrels and birds. Vinyl or aluminum are the most common soffit materials, as they are low maintenance and easy to install.
