Tile Roof

Tile roofs provide a classic, even rustic look to your home. This may be important to homeowners who prioritize appearance in regards to maintaining a certain style or theme of their home design.

Concrete roof tiles are sometimes referred to ‘flagstones’ because of their resemblance to flagstones in appearance and texture, they are however much heavier. Roof tiles have a flat surface, typically textured with small grooves or ridges so water can run smoothly off your roof without pooling up at the bottom edge. This makes them excellent for use on roofs where standing water may tend to collect after heavy rains.

These types of tiles come in two main types (concrete or clay), both of which look quite similar. Clay tiles are much more expensive, and have more of a smoother appearance.

Concrete roof tiles are made of a mixture of sand, cement, and water , which is all molded under heat and very high pressure. This process results in a material similar to regular concrete, but with the added benefit of being slightly lighter in weight and more durable against weather and wear. Further, another difference between concrete roof tiles and traditional concrete is that the concrete tiles are also much stronger than the traditional concrete (which typically requires rebar for internal strength and rigidity).

A Classic Choice

Tile roofing comes in a variety of textures and colors to fit any style of home. Not only are tiles heat and rain-resistant, but they can be an eco-friendly option as some tiles are made from recycled clay, while most are made from concrete. This material's versatility and durability make it a popular choice for Florida homeowners.

Homeowners appreciate concrete roofing tiles for the various colors, types and styles they are available in, as well as their ability to mimic rustic, old-world charm. Another benefit is that concrete roof tiles minimize external noise, they are also non-toxic and wind- and fire-resistant, so they contribute towards a safer home environment.

Homeowners in warm-sunny climates like Florida report lower cooling costs because concrete tiles reflect sunlight, and are good insulators. Similarly, on colder nights, concrete roof tiles insulate the house from cold temperatures, which also decreases heating costs.

Maintenance

It is also important to know that concrete tile roofs require frequent maintenance due to water and impact damage, color fading, and the need to routinely replace the underlayment. Without regular maintenance and upkeep the integrity of the tiles, and ultimately, the house, and the aesthetic value of the roof will all diminish.

Concrete roof tiles require extensive-routine maintenance and repairs to preserve both their integrity and appearance.

Moss and mildew tends to grow between concrete tiles, especially homes in wet climates. Therefore, homeowners should wash the roof with a pressure washer at least once a year.

Homeowners must often inspect their roofs for damaged tiles, particularly after a severe weather event.

3 Types of Concrete Tiles

Our Project Manager will gladly review all the types of styles, types of tiles and materials. However, below are some details for your consideration if you prefer to delve into it deeper on your own!

Natural Concrete roof tiles are made from cement, fine aggregate, water, and clay (or other minerals). This type of tile is typically used on small buildings or in rural areas where it is cheaper and possible to use less-expensive materials. This type of tile is also more environmentally friendly it require less energy to produce than synthetic ones.

Synthetic Concrete roofing tiles are made from cement, fine aggregate, water, and additional polymer resins, which give them their color and texture. Synthetic concrete tiles have become increasingly popular in recent times due to their lower cost and higher durability compared with natural tiles. However, synthetic tiles are less environmentally friendly, since creating artificial concrete requires more fossil fuels during production

Fiber concrete roof tiles are made from a type of composite that utilizes a combination of sand, cement, and fiberglass, which results in a light, durable roofing material. This type if tile is relatively new on the market, but is gaining popularity because it offers many benefits over traditional concrete.

Shake Shingles

Synthetic cedar shake roofing mimics the natural beauty and rustic split textures of real cedar wood, but has the incredible benefits of composite materials.

  • These composite cedar shake shingles come in solid- or multi-color blends.
  • The durability makes them more economical to install than wood.
  • Composite cedar shake shingles ensure a much longer life expectancy and less maintenance and repair issues than natural wood shingles, which results in a greater return on investment, fewer damage concerns, and uncompromised aesthetic style.

Slate or Flat Tile

Composite concrete slate tiles offer the incredible beauty of heavy natural quarried slate roofing without the costly substructure modifications.

  • Composite Slate polymer tiles by Brava have a 1-inch profile, which reduces shipping and installation costs over natural slate.
  • Our Composite Slate tiles furnish the thickest synthetic slate roof profile available , which results in beautiful color exposure and superior durability.
  • Our composite slate roof tiles come in any custom color or color combination.
